Gloria Ferrer -  Sonoma, California

    Carneros Pinot Noir

Eleven soil types and a variety of Pinot Noir clones and selections, varied terrain plus the daily effects of
cooling summer breezes and morning fog combine to produce exceptional wine from our 335 acre estate vines in Carneros. As our understanding and development of our terroir grows, our estate Pinot Noir gains complexity and consistency. This is the 16th Carneros Pinot Noir we have released.

    Tasting Notes

Succulent raspberry, plum and black cherry fruit aromas and
hints of brown spice and forest floor announce this delicious Pinot Noir, perhaps our best ever. Complex, round and mouthfilling, the wine glides onto the palate displaying pure black cherry and ripe berry flavors, and the long aftertaste is rich yet fresh and agile.

    Winemaking

    • 100% Carneros Pinot Noir
    • Colmar 538, Martini 13, UCD 32, Wadenswil 2A and
Trefethen were the primary clones used for this blend
    • Individual vineyard lots were destemmed, partially
crushed and cold-soaked for three days to extract color
    and aromas
    • Thrice daily punchdown and pumpover regimes were
tailored to each lot to extract fruit character and minimize
    bitterness
    • Made exclusively from free-run juice
    • Barrel aged for nine months in medium-plus toast 100%
French oak barrels (33% new) coopered by Damy, Billon,
    François Frères and Cadus
    • Bottled unfined

    Acclaim

Wines that go with Thanksgiving by Laurie Daniel
"Gloria Ferrer is a Carneros winery best known for sparkling wines, but the 2005 Gloria Ferrer Pinot Noir is a lovely still wine, with flavors of cherry and strawberry, appealing spice and a supple texture."
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, November 14, 2007

"Exceptional: Distinctive thyme/cherry aroma with a mild note of spice, and a crisp, food-oriented finish. Less for sipping, more for the dinner table."
