Gloria Ferrer - Sonoma, CaliforniaCarneros Merlot
Tasting NotesComplex aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, cassis and cedar mingle with a touch of mint in the nose of this elegant Merlot. In the mouth, lively black cherry, raspberry and ripe plummy flavors combine with pleasant tannins and hints of cinnamon and cocoa on the lingering finish. WinemakingThe 2006 vintage got off to a slow start during a cool, wet spring with a frost that reduced crop by about a third. The delayed season proved a blessing by July as temperatures spiked to over 100 degrees for a few days; most clusters still consisted of green, hard berries not as susceptible to heat damage. Cool weather returned close to harvest and further prolonged the ripening process. Fortunately, we were able to take advantage of the extensive hang time and bring in fully ripe fruit before the advent of rain in October.
